Community Input Needed for West Geauga Superintendent Search
The West Geauga Board of Education is beginning its search for a new Superintendent and your input is important to us in this process. Please assist us by offering and prioritizing up to five suggestions as to what you believe would determine the best characteristics and criteria for West Geauga’s new Superintendent. In order for your input to be considered, your name must be provided.
In addition, please indicate if you grant permission to the West Geauga School District to place your name, address and email address on a list to receive school-related information and/or special notices in the future.

Congratulations to the PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest Winners!
Congratulations to the following West Geauga students from Lindsey Elementary for their accomplishments in the local PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. Their picture books were judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of text and illustrations. Athena Hocevar, in third grade, is the second place winner. Brinn MacLellan, also a third grader is this year's third place winner. John Mikes, a first grader, is the third place winner for his grade. They should all be very proud of their hard work!

Congratulations to the West Geauga State Science Fair Award Winners!
Kirstin Boni was rated Superior and won the 1st place Chemical Science Award from the American Chemical Society and $250.
Layla Nosek was rated Superior and won an impressive scholarship of $15,000 a year (renewable for up to 4 years) to Ohio Wesleyan University.
David Hartman's project was rated excellent.
Lauren Finkenthal took the 2nd place in the Behavioral Science Award from the Ohio Psychological Association and $50, she has also been entered into the Broadcom MASTERS competition.

Excel TECC Program Awards
Congratulations to West Geauga students in Excel TECC programs for receiving 2011-2012 awards. We are proud of their accomplishments! The Outstanding Senior award will be announced at Senior send-off. TECC graduating Seniors earned over $6 million in scholarships this year!

West Geauga High School Students Re-Engineer School and Learning at SPARK
If students could design how they learn, what would they come up with? Forty West Geauga High School students will come up with five ideas they believe are implementable during a new special one-day program called Spark. Proposed and sponsored by WEDGE, the West Geauga Educational Foundation, Spark brings together ten students each from grades nine through twelve with ten teachers. Working through a series of exercises, brainstorming and breakout groups, the participants will develop and present their improvement ideas.

Alliance for Working Together & National Robotics League
Congratulations to the West Geauga's Robotics Club - Connor Bayzath, Michael Girbino, Chris Heintz, Skylor Gomes, Greg Jenkins, Josh Zjaba, Domenic Mitri - on its First Place win at the AWT (Alliance for Working Together) Robots Competition associated with the National Robotics League. Recognition is also bestowed upon teachers Natalie Cooper and Brian Spotts for a job well done!

Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Education Programs Announce 2012 Grosvenor Teacher Fellows
Congratulations to Mike Sustin, West Geauga High School life science and environmental science teacher for receiving the 2012 Fellows. Each year, K-12 educators from around the country are encouraged to apply for this one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity. The object is to enhance their geographic learning through direct experience and to bring that knowledge back to their classrooms.

Clay McMullen Named As 2012 Regional Coca-Cola Scholar
Clay McMullen, a senior at West Geauga High School, has been recognized as one of the country’s most outstanding high school seniors by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship for college. As a member of the 24th class of Coca-Cola Scholars, Clay has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and civic engagement in school and in the community.

National Technical Honor Society
On Thursday, April 19 in the Mayfield High School Auditorium, 47 career technical junior and senior students from 14 different programs were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Students represented eight of our nine-district Excel TECC consortium. Congratulations to the following West Geauga students who earned this honor: CADD Engineering Technology: Denise Volcensek and Medical Technologies: Kaeli Gallagher, Cody Henriksen, Hanna Krysinski, Steven Repas.

Congrats goes out to Benjamin McMullen for being chosen as the 2012 recipient of the AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report for the state of Ohio. Benjamin will receive a $10,000 scholarship to the accredited school of his choice.

WEDGE Funds Programs To Enhance Student Learning in West Geauga Schools
What do high school students playing classical music to elementary schoolers, children sitting on stability balls instead of chairs, ninety-two special iPad covers designed for school use and social learning techniques all have in common? All are new to West Geauga classrooms. And all were awarded funds in January by WEDGE, the West Geauga Educational Foundation.

District Receives $30,000 Gift!
West Geauga recently started an endowment program and received a $30,000 gift from Board Member Michael Kilroy and his mother, Angela Kilroy, in memory of the late Edward A. Kilroy Jr. The gift is to establish a Technology Endowment which will be used to further enhance technology in the district and to compliment the technology efforts of the West Geauga Education Foundation.
